The Pandemic Increases Anxiety and Depression Worldwide

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world. People all over the world are facing unprecedented stress because of the pandemic. According to the WHO, loneliness, fear of exposure to COVID-19, loss of loved ones, grief after bereavement, and financial worries contribute to increased anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicidal tendencies worldwide, especially among young people and women.

 

Although COVID-19 has raised mental health awareness, it has also shown a lacking of mental health services. WHO and partners have been working on mental health issues related to COVID-19, such as producing “My Hero is You” and a toolkit in many different languages for supporting kids and adults. WHO urged all countries to pay more attention to investing in mental health to provide better mental health support services.
